First-Time Thrills in Thailand: My Zipline, White Water Rafting & ATV Experience

14 September 2025

Before hitting my Big 3, I made up my mind to be adventurous this year. It wasn’t an easy start – frequent colds and persistent infections slowed me down. But I finally made it happen during the trip to Phuket, Thailand, and it turned out to be one of the most thrilling experiences of my life.

We spent a day visiting Phang Nga, a destination known for its outdoor adventures. From ziplining through lush forests to white water rafting on wild rapids and ATV riding through the mountains, this trip gave me enough adrenaline to last the entire year.

Ziplining: My First Flight Through the Trees

This was my very first time on a zipline, and to my surprise, it wasn’t as terrifying as I’d expected. Gliding through the greenery felt exhilarating, and the brief drop gave me a strange yet tingling sensation. The fact that I was supported merely by a rope, with my feet dangling precariously in the air, was such a marvellous (and of course, dangerous!) experience.

To be fair, the zipline wasn’t extremely high or long, which helped me gather the little courage I had to try it.

White Water Rafting: My Newfound Love

Whoever says white water rafting in Thailand is an easy feat? Not me. I am thankful to the skilled guides at Song Preak Rafting, who’d expertly navigated the rough waters for us. That left me free to focus on staying balanced and soaking in the breathtaking scenery around Phang Nga’s rivers (when the waters permit).

The highlight came after the 5km mark, where the rapids got wilder and the crowds thinned out. It felt like a private roller-coaster ride through nature. For thrill-seekers, the tour offers 7km and 10km routes as add-ons (though not always listed on booking sites, the guides will inform beforehand).

Would I do it again? Maybe not. I’m not fond of being drenched and uncomfortable afterwards. Even so, white water rafting has earned a special place in my heart for the sheer rush and beauty of it.

ATV Riding: A Scenic Breeze

Next came ATV riding in Phang Nga, which turned out to be another highlight.

I’ll admit, I wasn’t the best driver. Thankfully, our friendly guide Alin stepped in and took over most of the steering. That gave me the chance to enjoy the mountainous views as we weaved through the jungle trails.

His sharp driving skills meant we avoided the mud traps and climbed slopes without the arduousness of a greenhorn.

Overall, the combination of adventure and scenery made it an experience I’d recommend to anyone visiting Phuket.

Final Thoughts

Pushing myself to try these activities was far outside my comfort zone, but I’m glad I did it. If you’re visiting Phuket or Phang Nga, I’d highly recommend trying these activities if time permits.

For me, it’s more than the adrenaline rush; it’s about creating memories, trying new activities and discovering our hidden resilience, and experiencing the warm Thai hospitality that makes these tours unforgettable.
