Cijin (旗津) is an offshore island in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. A hidden gem famous for fresh seafood and the breathtaking sight of cerulean waters against dark sands, it is also a place that is close to my heart – my mother’s hometown.
This year, in my endeavours to be adventurous and to fulfill the to-do list with my best friend, we’d signed up for a glamping stay hosted by Easy Camp No. 2 (露營樂2號店).
Although the location was a little remote, public transport is still very much accessible and convenient here (directions at the end of this post).

The journey from Kaohsiung main city to Cijin island takes approximately 10 minutes, not inclusive of the waiting time. We caught the sunset aboard the ferry as we departed late in the day.
Hues of orange painted the skies against the dark mountainous silhouettes, accompanied by the sounds of the ocean — serene.

This video showcases our tent for the night and it’s indeed appropriate for the term ‘glamping’ as the accommodation is well prepared with facilities situated nearby. We booked the VIP camp site at NTD 3,200 per night (as of February 2023) which was an amazing deal for an unobstructed view of the sea.
Do note that the pricing may differ according to the seasons and our stay was on a Friday night with February an off-peak season.
The sleeping area includes two double bed (intended for four), small tables, and a two-in-one air conditioner and heater (which I am incredibly thankful as it was still cold). The site also provides an outdoor dining area with a portable stove and a set of pot and ladle provided.
However, we opted for convenience by purchasing takeaways from the many delicious food stalls in Cijin Old Street. Expect seafood, seafood, and more seafood with famous Taiwanese drinks too.
Yes, we woke up to this view! Unfortunately the skies were grey, but it cleared up soon after.
The camping ground is expansive with gender-divided bathrooms, a playground and even a water park for children, and a pool area for all. There weren’t a lot of campers in this season which meant quiet morning strolls for us.
Although we didn’t have a good night sleep due to the strong winds, the tent itself was very warm and the bed was luxuriously soft.
The starry night sky (remember to look up and stargaze!) and the simply calming view of the sea in the morning made our time and money worth.
All in all, I’d enjoyed the glamping stay despite the cold weather. It was a one-of-a-kind experience and I’d love to try this again — in summer!
Don’t forget to take photographs at this iconic Seashell landmark just down the road from the camping ground.
What makes Cijin beach distinctive from the others are the shimmering black sand grains, the unique colour sedimented from the erosion of volcanic rock.
Directions:
A: Take Kaohsiung Metro to Sizihwan (西子灣) Station. Walk to Gushan Ferry Pier Terminal to take a ferry to Cijin Island.
Cijin Ferry Pier Terminal is located right beside Cijin Old Street. Take Bus R9 (紅9) from the terminal to Easy Camp No. 2 or alternatively, hail a cab.
B: Take Bus R9 (紅9) from Cianjhen Senior High School Metro Station (前鎮高中捷運站) with stops along Gushan Ferry Pier Terminal, Cijin Old Street, and alight at Tiansheng Temple (天聖宮) to reach Easy Camp No.2.
