When time travelling is not an option and money is a constraint, where can one go when one really, really wants to visit Greece?
Welcome to E-DA Theme Park in Kaohsiung, Taiwan

E-DA Royal theatre, modelled after the Acropolis, is a professional theatre housing 1,800 seats.
Everyone visits a theme park for a reason — a day of adventure, the novelty, in search of the most thrilling ride in the region.
Not me. I’m here for the scenery.
I’ve always loved E-DA for its Greek-inspired theme park (Greece is on my bucket list!) and how picturesque the whole place is. The park is not big either, and spending a day here is more than enough to enjoy the place thoroughly.
Now, the theme park is aggregated into three zones: the Acropolis, Santorini, and the Trojan Castle, with a monorail weaving through the area.
Enjoy the beauty of Greece in Taiwan (oh, the conundrum!)

The imposing Trojan Horse (no Greeks inside!) stands guard to the Trojan Castle, known as the largest indoor amusement building. Housing four-storey of fun family rides, there’s bumper cars, bouncy castle, a roller coaster in the dark, and more!

One of my favourites — the carousel! But this one is a little special with a two-level ride!
And then, there’s the Junior Coaster on the roof top —

which isn’t junior at all — imagine Spinning Teacups but with intensity, sudden spins and sharp turns. The ride left me dishevelled and pondering about life afterwards. Honestly, I’m wondering if my age is catching up to me now.

It is only on the Swinger that I enjoyed the panoramic view of the surrounding mountains.
Don the Tourist Hat and Navigate Santorini
Step into iconic architecture of the Aegean city and explore the many dining options and gift shops — and more rides, outdoors!

Touted as Taiwan’s tallest high-speed plunging water attraction: 240 seconds, 480 metres, two-stage drop, and a 15 degree descent.
It’s Poseidon’s attraction — so yes, a flume ride!

And there, folks, the most thrilling ride I’d taken in the park. I’d felt my soul leaving my body during the drop and returning pretty soon after, when the explosion of water caught me in a torrent. I’ve always enjoyed water rides and this exhilarating one is definitely going into my list of favourites.
And so, the adventurous Sofia had ended her thrill-seeking quests and put on her tourist cap as quickly as she stepped down from the flume ride.
Also, a reminder to self: prepare poncho or a change of clothes. It was uncomfortable walking around in half-dried clothes despite using the full-body dryer.

And it’s an exploration time with my good ol’ phone!

Meander through the white and blue city replica and feel a dose of Mediterranean breeze.
Not forgetting the daredevils and thrill seekers

One of the two iconic attractions: Booster. Find the 18-storey swing in the Acropolis zone with an astounding 360-degree rotation.
There’s really everything for everyone in E-DA Theme Park —

Big Air, in the Santorini zone, is a U-shaped roller coaster that (as seen in the picture) sends its riders skyward and plummeting at incredible speed.
While I’m not a fan of such terrifying thrilling rides, I could still vouch for the reverberating screams that these rides would be memorable.

I’m back to enjoying the sights, marvelling at the statues depicting Odysseus against Polyphemus the Cyclops.

E-DA outlet mall is situated beside the sprawling amusement ground and the E-DA Royal Hotel (yes, there’s a hotel too!). Shop international brands, savour gourmet food, and take the highest Ferris Wheel in Taiwan in this neoclassical shopping mall.

Get a bird-eye view of the beautiful Kaohsiung city during the 18-minute ride, and the night view makes the scenery even more dazzling with all the lights.
Tips for the day
Slather on plenty of sunscreen and prepare an additional set of clothes for the water ride (dryer available too). Do take note that E-DA theme park hosts school visits too, so it can get crowded on weekdays.
For All Ages

The combination of indoor and outdoor attractions makes the theme park suitable for visitors of all ages. More than rides, there’s plenty of things to do there: watch theatre performance in Acropolis and acrobatic acts in the field of the Trojan Castle, 5D entertainment, and plenty of photo spots.
I’d really enjoyed myself and it wouldn’t be the last time I visited E-DA!
