Ever wonder how the Secret Garden Howl gifted Sophie feels like in Howl’s Moving Castle? Or what a ride with No Face would look like in Spirited Away?
Spirited Away (2001)
The first official Studio Ghibli exhibition in Singapore, The World of Studio Ghibli, is brought to life in the ArtScience Museum today. Featuring 16 large-scale sets that are crafted on-site by a team of Japanese artists, iconic scenes are replicated with precision to provide an immersive experience.

Step into the sets of fan-favourites films from Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro to Porco Rosso and Castle in the Sky.
Howl’s Moving Castle (2004)
My favourite part of the exhibition is the strange-looking dome in Howl’s Moving Castle gallery — revealing to be the Secret Garden Howl gifted to Sophie. With the OST Merry-Go-Round of Life by Joe Hisaishi in the background, I couldn’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia and awe.
Castle in the Sky (1986)
“I am sorry I dragged you into all of this.”
“When you fell from the sky my heart was racing. I knew something wonderful had begun.”

My Neighbour Totoro (1988)
Spot Totoro sleeping in its cave and take a photograph with Totoro, Mei, and Satsuki. The staff members on duty will assist with the photo taking — a plus point for the exhibition!
Princess Mononoke (1997)
I loved Studio Ghibli films for its fantastical elements, riveting storylines, and how each story weaved in a theme that mirrors our reality. For instance, Princess Mononoke shares the message of peaceful co-existence with nature and the importance of protecting our environment.
Spirited Away (2001)
One of my favourite films, Spirited Away, is a visual masterpiece. Following Chihiro’s journey into the realm of gods and spirits, it’s a harrowing tale of courage, friendship, and love.
I’ve watched Spirited Away countless times, and I still discover extra details today. For instance, the food Chihiro’s father had eaten was the stomach of a coelacanth, a dish meant for only the Gods. Henceforth, the curse, and thus begins the arduous journey.

Verdict: The Studio Ghibli Exhibition is more than just a gallery — it’s a respite to relive childhood memories, find inspiration, and reconnect with our love for these timeless stories.
Spirited Away (2001)
A visual feast and more: There are two interactive sections for visitors to get hands on. In the Totoro gallery, we get to make an origami in the likeness of Totoro while in the Spirited Away gallery, we are invited to draw little sootballs.
Pom Poko (1994)
Enjoy yourself! Ignite the child in you and appreciate each artwork and statues with marvel. Walk through life-sized recreations of iconic scenes and take many photographs. Last but not least, the adult in you will be glad to bring home exclusive merchandise we can finally afford.
