Jurong Lake Gardens is the perfect escape for a refreshing day out in nature — photo spots, great food, and unique water features.
Spanning across Chinese Garden and Lakeside MRT stations, this beautiful park has finally reopened after a five-year extensive work.
The familiar Chinese and Japanese Gardens, and the new Lakeside Garden are now named as Jurong Lake Gardens as a whole; new spaces included the guesthouse (a multi-purpose hall), Water Lily Garden, water features, and several eateries.
Here’s the highlights of my day spent at Jurong Lake Gardens:
Brunch at Eden Cafe
Eden Cafe, located just a short walk from Chinese Garden MRT, offers a cosy environment against the pagodas in the distance.
The menu was filled with options from simple breakfast (Singapore local toast), brunch (pasta and burgers), and local delights (laksa and nasi lemak).
Joslyn, my friend, had ordered the Avocado Toast Delight while I had the Creamy Avocado & Buttermilk Fried Cod Fish Pasta — the dish combined avocado spaghetti with a buttermilk-battered cod fish seared nicely to a golden finish.
The avocado sauce added a wonderful flavour and texture to the pasta, although I wished the portion of the fish was larger. The sauce, meanwhile, had a rich savoury taste that complemented the pasta, leaving me actually craving for more.
Lotus Garden
After a fulfilling brunch, we headed over to the Lotus Garden nearby. Unfortunately, the flowers weren’t in bloom but the garden still made for a good photo spot.
Find pagodas, quaint bridges, and pavilions sprinkled throughout the pathways, giving plenty of shelter from the heat.
The Sunken Garden: Vertical Epiphyte Walls with Cave-inspired Centrepiece
One of the must-visit water features is the Sunken Garden, a unique nature art display. The walkways are arranged with walls of epiphytes, plants that grow on other plants in a symbiotic relationship.
Meanwhile, a limestone cave-inspired waterfall lies in the centre, with light streaming through the structure.
Manmade Waterfall — this blend of modern architecture and lush greenery makes this entire place unlike any other amidst the city skyline of Singapore.
Tips for the Day
- Stay Hydrated: While there are water stations around the gardens, it’s still a good idea to bring a water bottle, especially if you plan on spending the entire day here.
- Insect Repellent: Bring insect repellent to ward those buzzing mosquitoes away.
There are still many parts to feature for Jurong Lake Gardens — keep an eye out for this space, or better yet, visit the gardens today!
